The Chateau de Courtomer was built upon the ruins of a medieval castle and was the seat of the seigneurs of Courtomer since the 11th century. The current Chateau was completed in 1789 on the eve of the French Revolution for Count Antoine de Saint-Simon, Marquis de Courtomer.
Located in Basse-Normandy, about 160 kilometers west of Paris and a couple of hours from the Normandy coast, the Chateau is located on an old Roman road leading through Normandy en route to the English Channel.
Situated on 300 acres of private park, woodlands, pasture and fields (and also a working farm) the property offers a little something for everyone.
Country pursuits abound, but yet a short bike ride or walk away is the Village of Courtomer where you can enjoy a coffee, cider or shop the open-air fresh market.
The entire structure of the 17,500 square foot residence has gone through extensive renovations since 2005 retaining the charm and style of France’s elegant past. The 18th century architectural and decorative details have been preserved while at the same time modern conveniences and comforts have been introduced. The chateau is not only an elegant and comfortable home, it is also a working farm.
Local activities and towns provide cultural and recreational fun. Farther afield, you are only two hours from the D-day Beaches, Mont Saint-Michel, the Chateaux of the Loire, Paris and many other unique monuments of France’s fascinating history and culture.
